Box Breathing

Pause, regulate, then respond on purpose.

A guided 4-4-4-4 breathing pattern to steady your nervous system before you speak, decide, or react. Use it during conflict, before a hard conversation, or whenever a feeling shows up bigger than the moment calls for.

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

Psalm 46:10

The command is closer to stop than to relax. Four counts in each direction is a short, deliberate stop before you speak or decide.

Why This Works

Why slow, even breathing helps

Four seconds in, four seconds held, four seconds out, four seconds held. Lengthening the exhale and steadying the rhythm gives your body a signal to settle, and the count is simple enough to hold onto in a hard moment.

T

Take a Pause

Create space before reacting.

E

Examine the Emotion

Notice what you are feeling without immediately acting.

M
