Municipal Courts vs. Justice Courts (LV, Henderson, NLV)
Municipal Courts: Handle city ordinance violations, misdemeanor crimes, and traffic tickets issued by city police departments within city limits.
Justice Courts: Handle county civil disputes (small claims, eviction proceedings), preliminary felony hearings, and traffic tickets issued by Nevada State Police or County Sheriff inside township boundaries.
Warrant Check: Always verify which jurisdiction issued a traffic citation or warrant before showing up. Paying a ticket at Las Vegas Municipal Court will not clear a ticket issued in Clark County Justice Court.

Eighth Judicial District Family Court Center: Located on Pekos Rd. All family matters (divorce, child custody, guardianship, child support) are processed here.
Family Law Self-Help Center: Located on-site at the Pekos courthouse. Provides free pre-printed forms, packet instructions, and procedural assistance for self-represented (pro se) litigants.
Filing Fee Waivers: If you cannot afford court filing fees, request an Application to Proceed in Forma Pauperis (Fee Waiver) before submitting your documents.
Working with Free Legal Aid Organizations
Income Verification Required: Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and Nevada Legal Services receive federal and state funding that requires proof of household income. Gather recent pay stubs or benefit letters prior to calling intake.
Walk-in Clinics: Legal Aid Center offers regular free legal education classes and self-help intake clinics for small claims, tenant rights, and record sealing.
Eviction Notices: If you receive a 7-day pay or quit notice, act immediately. In Nevada, tenants must file a Tenant's Answer with the Justice Court to prevent a default eviction order.
